Luxembourg (26th December 2009)

***** Butterflygal's Trip Update *****

Reaching Luxembourg on Boxing day isn't really a good idea. The town is so quiet and no shops are open at all. But my plan had been to do a walk and gosh we really did walk alot on that day. It was supposed to be a 1000 years in 100 minutes Wenzel walk but we definitely clocked more than 2 hours .. Maybe more than 3 hours haha...

The name “Wenzel Walk” pays tribute to Wenceslas II, Duke of Luxembourg between 1383 and 1419.

Oh and if you are interested to get the Wenzel Circular Walk pamphlet, you may do so here. I highly recommend the walk because it was probably the only time we basked ourselves in sunlight (the weather was superb for walking that day!)

So we walked while I take picture of cute little children

and doggies who are feeling cold too.. and little snowman (oh the snow was thining on Boxing day but it begun to snow again the next day)… and I even met Mahatma Gandhi..... statue. Interesting.

After the long walk to the city area, we ended up in their Christmas Market, probably the only place with all the people in the town (considering we were walking 2-3 hours and met nobody… cars do pass by us though). Oh ya the lights remind me of Suan Lum Night Bazaar in Thailand hahaha....

We ended our tour near the Golden Lady Monument (Gelle Fra). She was erected in 1923 to commemorate the Luxembourger victims of the First World War. In 1940 the monument was demolished by the Nazis, but later in 1984 it was reconstructed in its original appearance. Tried to catch sunset here but I did not manage to catch a good shot. By the way there is a wonderful view of the valley and the Adolphe Bridge from here.

Spent the evening in the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Luxembourg. There was service that night as it was Boxing Day afterall. I must admit that I almost doze off though. It is the eve where I will fall sick.

Then we head back to the Christmas market area to have our crepe. Yummy. Oh ya talking about food, a Japanese lady taught me to eat my plain yoghurt with marmalade. It is actually quite yummy… Slurp!

Last but not least, we had also met a queer hostel mate who seem to have illegally sneaked her way into the hostel for free lodging and breakfast. It was another interesting encounter to be retold when asked about my Europe trip.

Oh ya I started a new series of keychain with this europe trip... a booklet photo keychain...

That and I added another currency in my currency keychain collection while in Amsterdam.. the guilders collection..
