Change can often come when you least expect it, and if it's an unpleasant one, it can be rather jarring on your peace of mind. This kind of shocking change, when it comes at a time when all seems to be going well in your life, can be particularly tough to deal with. Many people, unable to manage the initial trauma, can slip into depression or resort to desperate measures.
- Dealing with shocking change

In the aftermath of a great tragedy or crisis, many people retreat from life. But while the past and sorrow may provide some solace, they must quickly be abandoned lest they drag our spirits into the bottomless pit from which we may never emerge. A snake casts off its old skin, and a crab sheds its cumbersome old shell which has become too big and heavy. How about human beings?
- Metamorphosis

So the best solution is not to panic, to savour the changes and believe life is still worth living. A catastrophe can make your choices seem very limited, only because you chose to close up and panic and despair thus forgetting all your options. Sometimes A Slice of Life can really read my mind.. eternally grateful. Only problem, I still cannot figure out what I want in life... but after reading the legend of the Cherokee Indian youth's rite of passage, I think I can find an answer soon. I must believe.

Do you know the legend of the Cherokee Indian youth's rite of passage?

His father takes him into the forest, blindfolds him and leaves him alone. He is required to sit on a stump the whole night and not remove the blindfold until the rays of the morning sun shine through it. He cannot cry out for help to anyone. Once he survives the night, he is a MAN.

He cannot tell the other boys of this experience, because each lad must come into manhood on his own.

The boy is naturally terrified. He can hear all kinds of noises. Wild beasts must surely be all around him.

Maybe even some human might do him harm. The wind blew the grass and earth, and shook his stump, but he sat stoically, never removing the blindfold. It would be the only way he could become a man!

Finally, after a horrific night the sun appeared and he removed his blindfold. It was then that he discovered his father sitting on the stump next to him. He had been at watch the entire night, protecting his son from harm.

We too, are never alone. Even when we don't know it,our Heavenly Father is watching over us, sitting on the stump beside us. When trouble comes, all we have to do is reach out to Him.

Alright, 千里之行,始于足下, I shall take this break to re-think and "寻找伯乐". My working life has never been smooth since my first job, but it will make me a better me I hope.
