The Devil Wears Prada

Finally finished the book. Usually I prefer to read the book before watching the movie. But sometimes, time doesn't permit like this case. So I watch the movie first before I read the book. And I must say, the book paints the devil much more devilish than the movie. And that there is no happy ending in the book.

Maybe that is life. After you had changed because of your job, and cause the love to change, do you really expect that by quitting your job, your love will be returned back to normal? It only happens in movie. In the book, Andrea and Alex's relationship was still left hanging.

And if your boss is a devil who says you reminded her when she is young, do you really think she will take kindly after you humiliated her in public? But then in the book, Andrea humiliated her boss. In the movie, Andrea had showed genuine concern about Miranda being replaced. So maybe that is why in the end, Miranda smiled when she sees Andre again.

I guess when work consumes your life, you can become a demon seduced. No matter how much your conscience tells you, how bad you felt, you just keep working and pray it will be over soon. But the workaholic in you knew that you are only wading further and further into the deep sea.

I guess that is life too. Because in life, anything related to human needs 2 or more to clap. It is too unpredictable. Career however is a one-sided love affair. Much easier to manage that one tends to choose career over love. It is so much easier to self indulge in career than mutual commit in love. That is why there are so many workaholics, so many unhappy relationships in the modern society.

Luckily Andre realised this fast and not when she is old and callous like Miranda where it is too late to regret and reclaimed what she has lost. How many more are still lost in this power struggle or just fighting for life's survival?
