Remy, a rat with a good sense of smell. Remy, a rat who read, watch culinary shows, and cooks. Remy, a rat that dreams big.
The movie first started showing Gusteau, a very famous cook, wrote a book saying "Anyone can cook, but only the fearless can be great". Because you will try things that might not work, you will not limit yourself.
The next line Gusteau spouted that spellbound me was
"If you focus on what you've left behind, you will never be able to see what lies ahead. Now go up and look around."
And Remy heeded his advice and seek his new future, a brand new future that is very daring, very fulfilling, and very much in line with his dream - To Cook! But of course a rat cannot be seen cooking. So he controls Linguini movements to cook. One should see the way he control, he was pulling Linguini's hair. So funny. Reminds me of a puppet show.
Anton Ego:
In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face is that, in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is more meaningful than our criticism designating it so. But there are times when a critic truly risks something, and that is in the discovery and defense of the new. Last night, I experienced something new, an extraordinary meal from a singularly unexpected source. To say that both the meal and its maker have challenged my preconceptions is a gross understatement. They have rocked me to my core. In the past, I have made no secret of my disdain for Chef Gusteau's famous motto: Anyone can cook. But I realize that only now do I truly understand what he meant. Not everyone can become a great artist, but a great artist can come from anywhere. It is difficult to imagine more humble origins than those of the genius now cooking at Gusteau's, who is, in this critic's opinion, nothing less than the finest chef in France. I will be returning to Gusteau's soon, hungry for more.
Towards the ending, Anton Ego, a food critic, was commenting about his life as a food critique which may seem easy most of the time. Yet there exists a few special moment where he needs to think twice before giving a comment because a wrong evaluation might ruin his whole career. I'm pretty surprised that Anton Ego was willing to give a good evaluation. Maybe to get a happy ending I guess. And maybe he was sincerely touched by the little chef's cooking. And maybe he was just more open than the rest because he finally realised "Not everyone can become a great artist, but a great artist can come from anywhere. "
Besides, how many is willing to eat what a rat has cook?
