Linda Ronstadt - A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes

Words & Music by Mack David, Al Hoffman, and Jerry Livingston
Song in Cinderella

A dream is a wish your heart makes
When you're fast asleep
In dreams you will lose your heartaches
Whatever you wish for, you keep

Have faith in your dreams and someday
Your rainbows will come smiling through
No matter how your heart is grieving
If you keep on believing
the dream that you wish will come true

A dream is a wish your heart makes
When you're feeling small
Alone in the night you whisper
Thinking no one can hear you at all
You wake with the morning sunlight
To find fortune that is smiling on you
Don't let your heart be filled with sorrow
For all you know, tomorrow
The dream that you wish will come true

A dream is a wish your heart makes...

A dream is a wish your heart makes...

You wake with the morning sunlight
To find fortune that is smiling on you
Don't let your heart be filled with sorrow
For all you know, tomorrow
The dream that you wish will come true

No matter how your heart is grieving
If you keep on believing
The dream that you wish will come true

Bflygal's comment : Someone ask how do I define dream. For a daydreamer, dreams means a lot to me. And like the lyrics, I believe the dream I wish will come true. Gosh I feel like watching Cinderella again.

Oh ya I finally found the movie I had been thinking about for the past few weeks everytime I think about Cinderella. 偷偷爱你 which star Tony Leung Chiu-Wai and Chingmy Yau Suk-Ching. Tony Leung was a successful man who turn blind temporarily in an accident. And his blindness help him found his true love, Chingmy. She is a girl who had loved him for so many years though he never once notice her at all. She is a girl who was read the Cinderella story when young and always believe her prince charming will arrive. She is a girl who finally did see her prince charming and accompany him in the streets of Hong Kong in a horse carriage style. And it is the horse carriage style scene that remains firmly etched in my memory.

Whenever I see the word Cinderella, I always remember a few shows, 偷偷爱你, Imouto yo 妹よ and Ever After. And of course the classic Disney movie - Cinderella. Nice!

This url is very interesting, still haven't figure out how the person did it.

By default the url is
www.uaresexy.com
And this will only say "You" are the sexy person admired by all.

But if you change the url to
www.(name).uaresexy.com
where (name) is your name, you will see something magical about this site.

This is why I'm so fascinated by it that I just had to blog it ...

28 Ways to Know You are Chinese

1. You unwrap gifts very carefully,so you can save and reuse the wrapping (and especially those bows).

2. When there is a sale on toilet paper, you buy 100 rolls and store them in your closet or in the bedroom of an adult child who has moved out.

3. You keep a Thermos of hot water available at all times.

4. You save grocery bags, tin foil and tin containers. You use the grocery bags to hold garbage.

5. You hate to waste food:
a. Even if you're totally full,if someone says they're going to throw away the leftovers on the table, you'll finish them.(your mom will give a lecture about starving kids in Africa)
b. You have Tupperware in your fridge with three bites of rice or one leftover chicken wing.

6. you don't own any real Tupperware-only a cupboard full of used but carefully rinsed margarine tubs, take out containers and jam jars.

7. You have a collection of miniature shampoo bottles that you take every time you stay in a hotel.

8. You wipe your plate and utensils or wash them in a small basin of hot water before you eat every time you go to a restaurant.

9. You own a rice cooker and slow cooker.

10. You wash your rice at least 2-3 times before cooking it.

11. You fight(literally) over who pays the dinner bill.

12. You have a teacup with a cover on it.

13. If you're under age 20, you own a really expensive Walkman, if you're over 20,you own a really expensive camera.

14. You're a wok user.

15. You only make long distance call after 7pm.

16. You prefer your shrimp with the heads and legs still attached it means they're fresh.

17. You never call your parents just to say hi.

18. If you don't live at home, when your parents call, they'll ask if you've eaten, even if it's midnight.

19. Your parents tell you to boil herbs and stay inside when you get sick. They also tell you not to eat fried foods or baked goods because
they're heaty (yit hei in Cantonese)

20. You email your chinese friends at work, even though you only sit 10 feet apart.

21. You always cook too much.

22. You eat every last grain of rice in your bowl, but don't eat the last piece of food on the table.

23. You starved yourself before going to all you can eat buffet.

24. You know someone who can get you a good deal on jewellery or electronics or computers.

25. You own your own meat cleaver and sharpen it.

26. Your toothpaste tubes are all squeezed paper-thin.

27. You know why this list consists of only "28" reasons.

28. You can take this message and forward it to all your Chinese friends.

So, if you are a Chinese, keep it up guys, coz not everybody can be a Chinese!!

Bflygal's comment:
Got this from an email. Agree to some points esp those on food e.g. leftover food and eating the last grain of rice but not the last piece of veggie. Oh and the cook too much because I always see the older generation either cooking too much or ta-bao (buying packed food) too much. They rather have leftover than let their guests hungry...

Actually I don't know why there are only 28 reasons. Can anybody tell me?
Oh but I'm glad to be a Chinese and at times, I'm glad to be a Singaporean... sometimes haha.

Love vs. Honor

Love vs. Honor is the most dramatic love story of all — defined by an innate tug of war between what you want to do and what you should do. There is something coming between you and love. Perhaps it's a religious conviction, a previous commitment, family, patriotic duty, or deep belief that good things only come at a terrible price.

If you're looking for examples you can start back with the Greek myths where heroes were often forced to give up love and the comforts of home for battles in far-off lands. In Charles Dickens' "Great Expectations," Estella chooses to obey her benefactress and break Pip's heart, even though she deeply regrets doing so. Political obligations and previous relationships tear Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman apart in the unforgettable film, "Casablanca."

In your love story, you find your soul mate, only to discover you can't be together unless you give up something precious, or jeopardize other relationships or ideals that are important to you. The decision itself is at the heart of your story. How do you choose? If this is your one chance at true love, can anything be worth giving it up? Can you enjoy love knowing you've betrayed something dear to you to achieve it? Or will the love be stronger for your sacrifice? This love story is about confronting your values and life choices. It's about reevaluating what's important to you and choosing to remain on the same path or move in a new direction.

If you've devoted yourself to long-term academic study or a consuming career that demands longevity in order to succeed — careers like medicine, law, business — you might feel you're letting yourself down if you throw yourself off-track with a relationship. Do you have a family member for whom choice of religion, career, or social position is a really big deal? Are you afraid to disappoint them if your partner doesn't match the mold?

In the movie, "The End of the Affair," Julianne Moore plays a woman who makes a pact with God to stop cheating on her husband if her lover survives a terrible injury. When he lives, she's forced to keep her promise, breaking both their hearts in the process. All relationships, at some point or another, require sacrifices. These painful decisions are familiar to everyone. No wonder it's so easy to relate to this story's historical, literary, and cinematic counterparts. You're living it!

Chance Meeting
English Translation of Meguriai

This wish... whoever... this wish
My lock is always open

So nice... this encounter, a chance encounter like this

Only this time, even covered with wounds, I still went out of my door
I extended my pointing finger, touching yours

The one who made others weep for love
and the one who was made to weep,
They might as well share the blame equally

Do not let go of this hand (The two of us)
We don't have the map of stars (We don't feel lost)
And we are not able to exchange much words

So at the end (These eyes)
If I was forgiven (If it ends)
When I look back, at the end you are the one

Even when all were lost, we two are one

Watching the people who see the bus of love they failed to catch driving away
the two of us, sitting here, are gently rocked

However hard I tried to warm it up,
my courage still could not hatch

Beauty that could not take shape ...
how vexing it was to be waken from the sweet dream

The bus they failed to catch (love was)
watching the people seeing it off (sent across)
The two of us here (in chance encounter)
are gently rocked (two of us here)

The bus they failed to catch (love was)
watching the people seeing it off (sent across)
The two of us here (in chance encounter)
are gently rocked (two of us here)

The one who made others weep for love
and the other who was made to weep
They might as well share the blame equally

This wish... whoever... this wish

So nice... this encounter, a chance encounter like this

Bflygal's comments : My friend had reminded me of this phrase that I used to love in my younger days
The one who made others weep for love
and the other who was made to weep
They might as well share the blame equally

The song was from a Japanese drama - Tokyo Cinderella Story (Imouto yo 妹よ), that I loved to the extent I bought the VCD though I was a "poor" student that time. I was told recently that the female lead's brother had acted as YUI's character (Amane) father in Taiyou no Uta. But what I found interesting is that the female lead, 和久井映見 ( Emi Wakui ) had acted as the elder sister in the drama First Love which I was reading just a few hours ago because I was listening to the song. Anyway I like Emi Wakui very much that time for that role that I went on to watch Virgin Road. But after that, I kind of lost her. Chance encounter...

Waffles and Spaghetti

I kept seeing this advertisement "Single Men are like Waffles, Single Women are like Spaghetti". The title is quite catchy. But I did not try to get the book yet because I'm not in a reading mood lately. The last time I tried the book "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus", I got lost still.

So why am I posting? Because I like what the author says. Or rather, I like the way the author's husband think about such things. Pam Farrel is the author and her husband is Bill, someone whom she described as brilliant and practical. Bill feels that most women tends to jump from subject to subject, interest to interest. For a man, this worries them and they wish they can fix it (the woman). But to Bill, he feels there is nothing to be worried about. He asked the guy to think of the woman's thoughts like a plate of spaghetti and that every noodle touches every other noodle. The woman is travelling through her life and thoughts and she is hooking her life to the man which is a compliment because she wants the man to know everything.

So if women "integrate" life, men "compartmentalize". Like the waffles.

While writing this post, I'm thinking about the 3 words "I Love You" and the significance it has on woman and on man. I'm wondering how does spaghetti mix with "I Love You", and how does waffle boxed up "I Love You". Does these 3 words mean differently to Man and Woman, or does it mean differently to different Man and Woman. Why is it that if you marry someone for 10 years, but she has never ever say "I Love You", you will feel sad? Maybe it has been expressed in other ways?

Suddenly I'm thinking if it is possible to cook spaghetti and put on top of the waffles. Hmm...

Jeon Ji Hyun Blog

Was reading my Tuesday "My Paper", and saw pretty girl, Jeon Ji Hyun, has a blog. And she wrote in English. I immediately went to check it out. I'm not sure if is really JJH writing but I feel the English has a raw feeling, and yet an earnest, sincere feeling. I can almost picture some girl trying her best to write her thoughts in another language... e.g. I'm trying to write my blog in Chinese. Only that she might feel more tough. Because at least I have been exposed with Chinese since young.

I like this phrase "月亮因太阳最美丽". Is her translator's blog. She got a translator to translate her English to Chinese content because she wish her Chinese fans can understand her thoughts too. So sweet right.

Oh ya I was saying if those posts were really penned by her, I can really feel how real she is. She wrote about her worries of being fat, of her love for handbags and that she used to be not so good in her fashion sense. Sounds very endearing.

But what shocked me was I actually heard 迷魂计 in the blog. Haha Club 183 song. Shocked! Not sure who created the playlist for her blog but I really don't expect to hear this song here.

Anyway she mentioned she love "First Love" this song too. Sighz, my memories of this song came rushing back to me. I believed everybody would have some memories of this song. Of the guy in the show. Of the teacher in the show. Nanako and her deep love, her stubborness, her determination. Something that I cannot forget even till now..

Tout Tout Pour Ma Cherie
- Michel Polnareff
(Tu Shi Nan Zhi Wen OST)

tout tout pour ma cherie, ma cherie
tout tout pour ma cherie, ma cherie

come on now
come on you

toi, viens avec moi
et pends-toi a mon bras
je me sens si seul
sans ta voix, sans ton corps
quand tu n'es pas la

viens! viens pres de moi

je ne connais rien de toi
ni ton nom,
ni l'age que que tu as
et pourtant
tu n'l'regretteras pas

car je donn'
tout tout pour ma cherie, ma cherie
tout tout pour ma cherie, ma cherie

je suis sur
un piedestal de cristal
et j'ai peur un jour de tomber
sans avoir personne a mes cotes

mais si tu viens, viens avec moi
je sais qu'il y aura
quelqu'un qui marchera pres de moi
qui mettra fin a mon desarroi

tout tout pour ma cherie, ma cherie
tout tout pour ma cherie, ma cherie

toi, viens avec moi
j'ai tant besoin de toi
j'ai tant d'amour a te donner
laisse-moi, laisse-moi
te serrer contre moi

toi, viens avec moi
et ne me quitte pas
je t'attends
depuis tant d'annees
mon amour,
tant d'annees a pleurer

tout tout pour ma cherie, ma cherie
tout tout pour ma cherie, ma cherie

English Translation

everything for my girl
everything for my girl

come on now
come on you

hey you, come with me
hang on to my arm
I feel so lonely
without your voice, your body
when you're not here

come! come next to me

I don't know anything
about you
not your name, nor your age
but
you won't be sorry

'cause I’d do
anything for my girl
anything for my girl

I’m standing on
a pedestal made of crystal
and I’m afraid of falling one day
without anybody by my side

but if you come with me
I know that there will be
someone to walk by my side
to put and end to my distress

everything for my girl
everything for my girl

hey you come with me
I need you so much
I have so much love to give you
let me hold you
against me

hey you come with me
and don't leave me
I’ve been waiting for you
for so long
my love,
so many years of tears

everything for my girl
everything for my girl

Charles Sykes Rules

I got the first 7 quotes from Ms Shenton of MyPaper and did a research. Thus I found the 11 rules came from Charles Sykes, author of DUMBING DOWN OUR KIDS. He had created this list for high school and college graduates. In his book, he talks about how the "system" may have created a generation of kids with no concept of reality and set them up for failure in the real world.

Rule 1: Life is not fair; get used to it.

Rule 2: The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something before you feel good about yourself.

Rule 3: You will not make 40 thousand dollars a year right out of high school. You won't be a vice president with a car phone until you "earn" both.

Rule 4: If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss. He doesn't have tenure.

Rule 5: Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your grandparents had a different word for burger-flipping; they called it opportunity.

Rule 6: If you screw up, it's not your parents' fault so don't whine about your mistakes. Learn from them.

Rule 7: Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way paying your bills, cleaning your room, and listening to you tell them how idealistic you are. So before you save the rain forest from the blood-sucking parasites of your parents' generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.

Rule 8: Your school may have done away with winners and losers but life has not. In some schools they have abolished failing grades, they'll give you as many times as you want to get the right answer. This, of course, bears not the slightest resemblance to anything in real life.

Rule 9: Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off, and very few employers are interested in helping you find yourself. Do that on your own time.

Rule 10: Television is not real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.

Rule 11: Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.
