Blessed

If you woke up this morning with more health than illness, you are more blessed than the million who won’t survive the week.

If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture or the pangs of starvation, you are ahead of 20 million people around the world.

If you attend a church meeting without fear of harassment, arrest, torture, or death, you are more blessed than almost three billion people in the world.

If you have food in your refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof over your head and a place to sleep, you are richer than 75% of this world.

If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish someplace, you are among the top 8% of the world’s wealthy

If your parents are still married and alive, you are very rare.

If you hold up your head with a smile on your face and are truly thankful, you are blessed because the majority can, but most do not.

If you can hold someone’s hand, hug them or even touch them on the shoulder, you are blessed because you can offer God’s healing touch.

If you can read this message, you are more blessed than over two billion people in the world that cannot read anything at all.

You are so blessed in ways you may never even know.

GA loves me this I know... because of all that happens to me. When I got lost on my way to Botanic Garden, I found out certain things.. like where Serene Centre is.. and review the bus route of 67 once again... Memories.. which I am unsure if I want to block... It is with mixed feelings when I stepped into the garden.. but I hope to overcome it and explore the garden again.. afterall I'm a grass person...

Relieved Muse on 24th Aug 2008

First thing first, wishing my very long time pal a happy birthday... It's amazing that I knew her only from Primary 4-5 after which she moved and yet we still keep in contact (while the rest who graduate together with me in pri sch or sec sch have lost contact with me... anti-social me).. hope she is having a fab time in Langkawi.

Next thing is just to say I should have vaguely recovered.  But I was super sian yesterday because it rained the whole day and I could not run.  Not that I love running, I just felt I'm under-trained.  The only good thing I did was I finally formatted my external hdd to NTFS and can transfer the travel videos over already.  Thanks to my bro for loaning me his lappie though I had to finish one korean drama (btw that drama was good.. 불량가족 / Bul Ryang Ga Jok or Bad Family on a little girl who lost all her family - parents, grandparents, 1 brother, 1 sister, 1 uncle and her memory leaving only another uncle who asked someone to find 7 people to pretend to be her family and trigger her memory back .. I spend one whole day on it and it made me laugh and cry at different times I suppose.. it was really traumatic when the little girl got back the memories and made one wonder sometimes is it better to just drink the 忘情水/孟婆汤 - Granny Meng's soup which will forget everything)

So I forced myself to run early in the morning.. made a left turn instead of the usual right but I did not go to the end.. maybe next time I will find the beachculture again.. Today though I found that I have a stable nearby haha.. giving pony riding lessons.  I'm quite tempted to try it.. will go back again another day to see when the sky is brighter.  Anyway I ran for 1.5 hrs phew.. I hoped to cover more distance though the next time.

Then is shower and prepare to head to the zoo... which is NOW haha.  Just so happy I finally formatted my hdd and that I am better... oh and that I was playing some hokkien songs - 12 lotus and such... accidentally and mum was humming to it haha... I really should buy the vcd when it is out...K time to head out.. today should be a good day.. lalala

p/s: Btw was someone referring to me on mid-life crisis?  Hmm...

Feeling bloated and moody…

It is the kind of pain that just stops you cold. You don’t want to do anything but curl up and lie in bed until the pain stops. And on top of being painful, bloating can be persistent. It can last for days on end, intermittently causing pain, gas, and other digestive problems.

It’s been 12 days already… some mornings it could get so bad I can’t sit still. And each time I’m home, I just want to lie down on my bed… Hmm this could get moody. Sigh so what good did I get out of it?

To learn that bloating can lasts so long. I avoided certain food though it is hard because I can be a real 馋嘴 (glutton) at times which may have been the reason why it’s been so long.
The following symptoms for gastritis:
• Upper abdominal pain or discomfort
• Gastric hemorrhage
• Hyperchlorhydria
• Appetite loss
• Belching
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Fever
• Lethargy
I learnt that there is a difference between gastritis and gastroenteritis and one of the main differences is there will be diarrhea for the latter.

Sigh I am moody … I had taken so many days to write this post… because each day, I hope the gas will disappear; the bloated feeling will disappear… but it still comes and goes at times.

I guess the only good is I sleep early every day, and I just kept watching shows because that is the only thing I can do while lying on the bed. So shows that I watched include

Untraceable – really good, I still wonder how they did the DNS attack. And kind of made me think of finding a way to join the police technology division…

Romance of their own; Enchanted; Cinderella; My Girl and I… all these love stories can make me believe too much in fairy tales which might have serious repercussion…

Oh and I even caught a movie.. local production 12 lotus… a movie that I have no idea what the story was about nor the fact that it will be predominantly Hokkien beforehand. But I like it all the same.. classic story line, weak at times, but the music and the effects made it up for the show... hmm I still haven’t watch 881 though…

Anyway since it is such a coincident that this is the 12th day, I shall stop editing this post and just post it. Besides I'm too moody and incoherent to vocalise my thoughts... Shall just continue to be undecided (was asked to think carefully what I want but my brain is blank.. too used to just let the fate lead me) and to force myself to start running for the 10 km run next month.. and by the way, I got promoted.. and ya I am following fate still because it just helped me fulfill a promise I made to someone that I will go Japan with her.. Only problem is I seem to be travelling out of SG every 2 months... Hmm escapist at work...

And praying for all my friends... hoping the project will goes well though time is racing... hoping that the recovery will be speedy after one week mc.. hoping that school will be good.. and hoping that the module will be decided finally and he will know what he wants to know... )

And here's the main song... 12 lotus...

Berkelah Waterfalls (1st August 2008 – 3rd August 2008)

Honestly speaking, the trip didn’t start well. As 3 persons backed out last minute, the final count was 8 (4 guys, 4 girls) which is quite a balanced ratio. However at the Woodlands checkpoint, I ended up in a queue that was super long due to some mishap and for once I realized how packed the checkpoint could be.

We finally reached JB …

… only to find out that all the buses to Kuantan are full. Panic! Then someone advised my friend to go KL then take the morning bus (estimated earliest 7 a.m. bus) from KL to Kuantan. So we took the last bus to KL.. the 1 a.m. bus. Except that it got delayed and by the time we reached KL…

It was after 7 a.m. But there was no loss in a sense because in that terminal, the earliest bus to Kuantan was 11.30 a.m. Sighz! From this trip, I also learnt that KL has many terminals. Because my friend decided to find another terminal to see if got more options. Quite a messy morning as we ended up almost making a police report to complain about a taxi driver.. then decided to take MRT as it should be a safer option. But weirdly we still ended up the wrong place despite telling the person we wished to go to a particular terminal. Sigh the consequence of not understanding Malayu. Ended up taking a cab to that terminal, only to realize that it was actually just another MRT stop…

Really not a smooth morning.. Luckily all that changes though after we took this nice bus from plusliner.

Initially we balked at the price which is 30RM. But they provided drinks (coffee, packet drink, water), refreshment (bread), movies (was playing Ah Long Pte Ltd and another show) and the seats were so comfy that I managed to sleep (the night before I was unable to sleep because some guys were playing song marathon the whole night).

Then we took a cab to the foot of the hill…

And finally immersed ourselves in the greenery

And the waterfall… This is the first waterfall we see, the so-called twin waterfall

Oh and by the way that was taken by my friend because I was too lazy to “climb” to a particular stone to get a better view. Is the only photo that is not taken by me in this post…

This dam area is the focus for the entire trip because we ended up setting our camp somewhere near the dam. Like I said, our luck turned good after taking the nice bus (although in Kuantan, we were unable to get any noon bus back to JB and the earliest was a 10pm bus but that I will blog later…). On the way up, we might have taken some wrong turns but someone will always “show us the way” or dispense some useful information. This dam area is the place where another kind soul helped us too. She was at the opposite side of the river and had seen us heading up so she shouted for us to stop to inform us that camp site 3 was crowded and there was no space for us to camp there too. Two persons decided to go check up the status while the rest of us stay here and wait.

While waiting, I took a picture of an ant…

and the leaves against the sky…

and a little flower

Haha it was quite a wait. Oh and the kind soul actually thought we couldn’t hear her and had crossed the river to our side to repeat what she just said. So kind!

Anyway the two came back and concluded we shall camp here. So we pitch 3 tents and started preparing our food. Cooked quite a lot of food amazingly. My friend even brought a stove to cook pasta. Yummy! Oh and the water in the dam was real cold but it was quite a nice experience to soak in the water and watch the stars. Gosh the stars in Malaysia were plentiful and beautiful.  It was so breathtaking that I forgot I was in Malaysia for a moment.  How I miss the stars now...

The next morning we proceeded with the ascent this time without our bags luckily as the trek is trickier. On the way, caught sight of this unknown fruit…

And lots of pitcher plants…

Another picture on the way up

And pretty flowers…

Before we finally arrived at Berkelah waterfall

We spent some time swimming and trying to “survive” below the waterfall and its strong currents haha…

We headed back for lunch before we packed up and made our descent. Oh my friend caught a little shrimp and crab (which escaped on its own, twice) but released it before we left.

While waiting at the bus stop for the bus, caught sight of a rambutan tree…

We were waiting for the 6pm bus since 5.30pm. The kind lady in the coffeeshop opposite the bus stop had told us it was the last bus so we should not miss it. But we waited as the sun was setting

till the sun has set and there were still no sight of the bus

Haha kinda panicked especially when we will try to wave at every bus we see. Luckily one of the buses finally stopped to pick us. Reached Kuantan and had our dinner at A&W

Coincidentally there was a weekend festival in Kuantan that week and we decided to roam around before heading for the 10.30 pm bus back to JB. Luckily this time the bus left promptly and we reached JB about 4 am. We were contemplating if we should wait for the first bus at 5 am back to SG or to take the cab all the way back. As I still hoped to reach office in time since the car was available to drive, thus I was quite in favour of taking the cab. Besides the whole gang, only one had taken leave and the other opted to work from home, the rest were also hoping to report to work. So we finally decided to take the cab and my friends let me alight first as I started work earliest. Luckily!

Overall, it had been an eye-opening trip. Just that I am still having some mild version subungual hematoma (no pain) and bruises… and I did admit to my mum that I went into the water after the trip.. how else to “bath” haha…

Wall-E

Source: ChristianityToday.com

Wall-E started off silently. A robot busy doing its prerogative. A voice from a commercial saying “Too much garbage in your place? There is plenty of space out in space! BnL StarLiners leaving each day. We'll clean up the mess while you're away.”

And indeed, I see piles of rubbish stacked in the earth. I see the only surviving robot crushing the waste into cubes and stacking them nicely. I see the robot filtering what can be recycled (especially its own parts). And I shudder to think what if one day; we really litter our planet Earth into this state. It is such a scary thought.

Besides the pollution theme, another theme that left a deep impression on me is about life. When the humans first appeared in the movie, they were depicted lazy, sitting down constantly in a machine like robot that will do all the tasks for human (and yes it includes brushing teeth even). To me, they were like living dead, glued to the TV shows in front of them to the extent they are not seeing the world outside. When Wall-E accidentally bump into one of the human making her look up, she suddenly realized there is a beautiful swimming pool which nobody is using at all. And when the Captain said “I don’t want to survive, I want to live!” it makes you think harder about your life, your work, your relationships and MOST IMPORTANTLY, your home – the Earth!

And as usual, I’m always fascinated by the AI part. When Wall-E recognized the value of Rubik Cube enough to keep it instead of thrashing it…

When Wall-E learns how to operate the VCR to watch “Hello, Dolly!” (Hmm I’m curious to know what movie that is) and learning about love and loneliness and the importance of holding hands with the love of his life… which he eventually did when he met the love of his life…

Wall-E is one of those movies which I bother to blog because…
it reminded me that there is only one Earth and the dire consequences should we abuse it;
it showed me what happens if humans get too lazy and makes every processes automatic;
it taught me what happens should human just live in the world of their own, disinterested in their surroundings;
it depicted that robots can get lonely… and that female robots can be murderous too… coolz…

Eve & Eve Eve

It’s the eve of the Olympics and the eve eve of National Day… And I only realized it when my colleague emailed all the ladies to please wear red/white tomorrow haha… It’s our yearly tradition.. and I remember last year I wore the flag upside down. So this year I will be nice and wear it the right side up.

Anyway it is just a short post because my energy is still not recharged. I came back to SG on a Monday morning, 5.45 a.m. and left home at 6.10 a.m.. Sped all the way to work (shhhh….) to be on time, or rather I was very early haha.. then slept till it is time to start work. Amazingly, I managed to survive the whole day in a concussed state (without any users zapping too much of my brain cells) and mustered sufficient energy to drive back. But I needed more rest so Tuesday came and go… By Wednesday I am half charged only to fall flat after a long meeting where I was taking minute this round. Zzzz.. Had another presentation today where I had been preparing the stuff since yesterday… And I foresee another few more meetings (almost one everyday from what I see).

So things not done include the long overdue postcard… the post on Wall-E… the post on Berkelah… I am still indulging on my sleep. Oh just checked Facebook by the way, and while looking through photos which include the commencement posted by my friend… plus the fact that XX just sent me the photo I took with him too.. I got bored and did something stupid. I went to post a photo I took in 2004 with my favourite bear bear and a photo I took this year with the lion mascot. Still like the bear bear best. Did I put that in Friendster? Unsure… And to my loyal reader, you can take a vote here. Anyway the reason why I don't put the photos here is because I somehow made it a point to only post photos of myself in Facebook (actually is because my friends posted them.. thus this is actually the first time I posted in Facebook) and Friendster.

Back to conserving more energy... to prepare for my training... for a half marathon...
