Who is Romeo's First Love? You might have thought it is Juliet. But you have been mistaken. Romeo's first love is Rosaline. A lady who rejected him. A lady who make Romeo so depressed and lovelorn. A lady waiting for her true love.
ROMEO : She hath, and in that sparing makes huge waste,
For beauty starved with her severity
Cuts beauty off from all posterity.
She is too fair, too wise, wisely too fair,
To merit bliss by making me despair:
She hath forsworn to love, and in that vow
Do I live dead that live to tell it now.
FRIAR LAURENCE : Holy Saint Francis, what a change is here!
Is Rosaline, whom thou didst love so dear,
So soon forsaken? young men's love then lies
Not truly in their hearts, but in their eyes.
Jesu Maria, what a deal of brine
Hath wash'd thy sallow cheeks for Rosaline!
How much salt water thrown away in waste,
To season love, that of it doth not taste!
The sun not yet thy sighs from heaven clears,
Thy old groans ring yet in my ancient ears;
Lo, here upon thy cheek the stain doth sit
Of an old tear that is not wash'd off yet:
If e'er thou wast thyself and these woes thine,
Thou and these woes were all for Rosaline:
And art thou changed? pronounce this sentence then,
Women may fall, when there's no strength in men.
The couple could have a happy ending if their communication did not break down. If Romeo had know Juliet's fake death. Maybe it is fated that both of them must die and be reincarnated to another happy world of their own.
And Rosaline was forgotten. Thrown one side. Like an extra. The lady who Romeo love deeply had only lasted mere seconds in the story. It is said that man keep their first love in their heart while women keep their first love in their memories. Whether heart or memories, they can be removed or erased.
Ask who is Romeo's first love. It is a lady by the name Rosaline. But who remembers Romeo's first love?

Haha objection! Although my poor english hinders me from understanding the speeches, I do not agree with the last sentence of your 2nd last paragraph because it is a sweeping statement. For some people, first love can never be forgotten unless they have a brain damage but anyways, I feel that it is not very appropiate to keep dreading about 1st love after commiting to a new relationship. =)
The story of Romeo's first love is mentioned in Goong. Forgive me for the sweeping statment and thanks for triggering my thought of the power of memories.
Sam-Soon once said that
"Memory is just memories. Memory has no power"
But Hee Jin proved that Memories do have power. At least sufficient power for the guy to bid a farewell trip to the first love.
And indeed in Goong, Prince Shin did bid a farewell trip to his first love too.
不在乎天长地久,只在乎曾今拥有. Maybe Hyo Rin should be grateful that at least she once was Prince Shin's first love because some people don't even get a chance to step into his world.
