Whatever May Come Whatever May Go

Sara Teasdale writes about her encounter with a wise old man, whose simple creed enabled him to keep the joy in his eyes through the ravages of the years.

I saw him sitting at his door,
Trembling as old men do;
His house was old; his barn was old,
And yet his eyes seemed new.
His eyes had seen three times my years
And kept a twinkle still,
Though they had looked at birth and death
And three graves on a hill.
'I will sit down with you,' I said,
'And you will make me wise;
Tell me how you have kept the joy
Still burning in your eyes.'
Then like an old-time orator
Impressively he rose;
'I make the most of all that comes,
The least of all that goes.'
The jingling rhythm of his words
Echoes as old songs do,
Yet this had kept his eyes alight
Till he was ninety-two "

Bflygal's comment : Hmm I don't really want to live to 92, but there are times I wish I can just let go if it ought to be let go...A glass of water theory? Indeed holding a glass of water too long will tend to become a chore too...

Beginners Guides: 99 Performance Tips for WindowsXP - PCStats.com

Author's note : Pretty cool page, got lots of tips haha. Will browse when have time though. For now I only did this tip :

72. Reduce menu delays

The Windows XP start menu incorporates a built-in delay between the time your mouse pointer lands on a menu and the time that menu unfolds. This can get annoying after a while. Using the registry, you can speed up menu response, speeding up your computing experience.

First, open REGEDIT and then navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\
Edit the MenuShowDelay value.

The default is 400; lower values will speed up the start menu.

Setting it to 0 is not a good idea unless you like 5 or 6 menus popping out at you every time your mouse pointer strays, but experiment to find your favourite setting.

Has a gal ever cried in front of you?

If a girl cries in front of you, it means that she
couldnt take it anymore.
If you take her hand, she would stay with you for
the rest of your life;
If you let her go, she couldnt go back to being
herself anymore.

A girl wont cry easily,
Except in front of the person who she love the
most, she becomes weak.

A girl wont cry easily, only when she love you the
most, she put down her ego.

Guys, if a girl cries bcoz of you, please hold her
hands firmly,
she's the one who would stay with you for the rest
of your life.

Guys, if a girl cries bcoz of you, please dont give
her up,
maybe bcoz of your decision, you ruin her life.

When she cry rite infront of you,
When she cry bcoz of you,
Look into her eyes,
Can u see n feel the pain n hurt she's feeling?
Think.
Which other girl have cried wif pure sincerity,
Infront of you,
And bcoz of you?

She cry not because she is weak,
She cry not bcoz she wan sympathy or pity,
She cry,
Because crying silently is no longer possible,
the pain, hurt,n agony have become too big a
burden to be kept inside.

Guys,
Think about it,
If a girl cry her heart out 2 you,
And all because of you,
Its time to look back on wat u have done,
Only you will know the answer to it.

Do consider it,
Coz one day,
It may be too late for regrets,
It may be too late to say "im sorry".

To my friends...
Ponder this message seriously.
Dont do dis to a girl,
You may regret for the rest of your life.
Maybe in your life,
she's the onli one that love YOU the most.
Remember this lesson. ALWAYS

author's note : i find this article very interesting. i can't say if it is 100% true, but for me, i do hope never to let anybody see my tears if possible. But i do admit that tears are woman's best weapon too. Hmm, to cry or not to cry, that is the question

Faster WinXP Booting!

2 articles on winxp bootup tweak

Even though WindowsXP is a fairly fast OS, I often hear people complain about how long it takes to boot up. Not to worry though, there's a simple registry tweak that can dramatically speed up your WinXP boot times! [Ed: Also have a look at our 'Fast Boot Tips!' article for more tips on this subject]
Click the Start button then go to 'Run' and type in 'Regedit'. Now follow this string HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SYSTEM -> CurrentControlSet -> Control -> SessionManager -> MemoryManagement -> PrefetchParameters.
Once inside, find the Prefetch string and change the value from 3 to 5. Since the value's are so low, it doesn't matter if you're using Hexadecimal or Decimal.
With this little tweak, WindowsXP should load up between 5-10 seconds faster! 5 seconds doesn't sound like a lot of time, but when you're waiting for a computer to load, it can feel like an eternity! =)"

For example, adding the line stacks=0,0 to the config.sys file can significantly speed up a computer. However, the two files I really want to focus on here are system.ini and msdos.sys. Within system.ini, add the following lines under [386Enh]:
LocalLoadHigh=1 - This setting tells the computer to load everything the operating system needs into upper memory by default, freeing up as much conventional memory as possible (the first 640K). Microsoft would like us to believe that this no longer effects the system, but they are lying.
DMABufferSize=64 - This setting tells the computer to leave as much memory available for DMA data transfers as possible, speeding up not only the boot process but the system in general.
There are some even more exciting settings available within the msdos.sys file for optimizing the boot process. Before you can modify the msdos.sys file (which is a hidden file, by the way, so you'll have to set Windows to show hidden files from within Windows Explorer), you will need to remove its read-only attribute. To do this, right click on the file, enter its properties menu, and uncheck read-only. Now that you've done that, open the file in notepad and add the following lines:
Logo=0 - This setting turns off the silly Windows splash screen during startup. Disabling this will shave a few seconds off your boot time.
Drvspace=0 - This setting turns off support for Drivespace-compressed FAT16 drives. Since no one uses this anymore, it is safe to disable. Disabling it will not only speed up your boot time, but it will also free up some extra resources as well
Dblspace=0 - Same as above, but this time for Doublespace-compressed FAT16 drives.
DisableLog=1 - This setting disables the log file which Windows creates by default when booting up. Disabling this will shave a few seconds off your boot time, and since no one ever uses the log file for anything anyway, it won't be missed.
AutoScan=0 - This line disables the automatic scandisk that is run if the computer is improperly shutdown - saving a bunch of time if you are constantly restarting your computer using the power button instead of the 'correct' way. Sadly, however, this doesn't appear to work with Windows Me.
Applying these tweaks should dramatically decrease the amount of time it takes for your computer to start up or reboot. Hopefully, these tweaks will help your computer boot up faster, and give you a slight performance boost as well.

A story to share with you =D

God's Boxes
I have in my hands two boxes, which God gave me to hold?

He said, "Put all your sorrows in the black box,
And all your joys in the gold."

I heeded His words, and in the two boxes,
Both my joys and sorrows I stored,

But though the gold became heavier each day,
The black was as light as before.

With curiosity, I opened the black,
I wanted to find out why,
And I saw, in the base of the box, a hole,
Which my sorrows had fallen out by.

I showed the hole to God, and mused,
"I wonder where my sorrows could be!"

He smiled a gentle smile and said,
"My child, they're all here with me."

I asked God, why He gave me the boxes,
Why the gold and the black with the hole?
"My child, the gold is for you to count your blessings,
The black is for you to let go."

We should consider all of our friends a blessing.

p/s : was given to me through email which supposed must send to 10 pple to mk them happy haha but I decided to blog it so that maybe more than 10 could read??
Anyway partly is because those who know me know I have no religion so I don't usually send out emails with the word 'God'.
However I still find this story meaningful.

A chance encounter

I can't really remember when I did this site, and I kind of forgot about it already. In fact if not because of my brother, I will never surf back SOC portal... In fact I'm rather surprised it is still there as I grad half a year ago already.

Seeing this page brings back alot of memories. As much as I want to save the whole coding of this page, I decided not to because somethings are best left in the past.

I'm one who treasures past alot. To the extent I don't look forward to future. It is a bad habit but I can't stop myself from reminiscing my past. It might even cause me to regret some stuff, some actions. But I still look back.

While reading this page, I really can see the changes as time goes by. The 2 AHS friends that I really treasure had broke my heart. My NUS 'wife' has been so busy and ignored me. Of course I might be at fault for not finding her at times too. My snail mails had decreased coz we are all busy working, finding uni etc.

I frequently think back my days in AHS, in TJC, in TPJC and in NUS. And I frequently tell myself that if I ever lost any friends, I must never lost my happy/sad memories with them.

That includes some of my best friends that I'm losing contact too due to studyload in NIE cum other commitments, or working shift and thus harder to meet up, or because I'm too busy to even online and chat with them.

Anyway on the happy note, I happen to 'catch up' with one TJC fren which I seldom (or accurately is 'never') talk before in TJC. Guess he might chance upon this blog. So as much as there are lots of changes, sometimes changes are good. Esp when this change allow me to be 'smitten' with lots of pretty gals haha.
